FNF High Level Delegations Visit Dharamsala

Dharamsala, 20 March, 2012: High level delegations of FNF comprising Dr. Rolf Berndt, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of FNF Headquarter, Germany; Mr. Siegfried Herzog, the South Asia Regional Director; Ms. Maria Schneider, the Asia Desk Officer; Mr. Omair Ahmad, the Programme Executive visited Dharamsala from 18th to 20th of this month. During their three days visit, they observed the on-going session of the Tibetan Parliament in Exile; Met the Speaker, Deputy Speaker and the Tibetan MPs; Met the Kalon Tripa and Kashag members; Interacted with the former Kalon Tripa, Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche; Had an audience with His Holiness the Dalai Lama at His residence; and took a visit to the nearby Upper Tibetan Children Village School.

 

China is Building Massive Military Infrastructures in Tibet.

Dharamsala, 18 March, 2012: Prof. Srikanth Kondapalli, the Chairman of Centre for East Asian Studies of Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, said “China is building massive military infrastructures in Tibet.  This poses a serious threat to all its neighbours. China deals with other countries in its own terms. In this situation, unless Tibetans pressurise it, it won’t response to the call for a genuine autonomy,” while giving a talk to the Tibetan Cabinet and the CTA staffs. He was here on two days visit to interact with the TPiE and the CTA officers to get an acquaintance with the CTA base in Dharamsala. Besides Kalon Tripa Dr. Lobsang Sangay and Speaker Penpa Tsering, he also had an interaction with the Director and faculty members of the TPI.

 

 

Six Tibetan M.Phil & Ph.D Students take part in Tibet Policy Institute Inauguration

Dharamsala, 17 February, 2012: Kalon Tripa Dr. Lobsang Sangay inaugurated Tibet Policy Institute (TPI) day before yesterday. The newly founded Institute will serve as a platform for doing comprehensive research works on all aspects of Tibet and Tibetan related issues which would help the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) in framing policies for the next fifty years and making the Tibet issue a competent case on the international platform.

Six Tibetan M.Phil & Ph.D students were invited to the inauguration by the CTA. Following the inauguration ceremony in morning, one and half day seminar on the current situation of Tibet was held at the DIIR Lhasang Tsering Hall. Mr. Thupten Samphel, the new Director of the TPI sought suggestions from the students on diverse research works whereby they actively took part in the seminar with professional CTA researchers and shared views on wide ranging issues. TPPRC facilitated the students’ travel to the inauguration while living accommodation during the seminar was arranged by the CTA.

8th School Students Workshop on Tibetan Democracy in Exile and Situation of Tibet

New Delhi, 7 January, 2012: The Tibetan Parliamentary and Policy Research Centre successfully organised the 8th School Student Workshop: Introducing the Tibetan Democracy and Situation of Tibet in two phases. The first phase was held at the Lower Tibetan Children’s Village School in Dharamsala from 26 December 2011 to 1 January 2012 and the second in Delhi from 1 to 4 January, 2012. The workshop is organised every year to impart a practical education to the class XI students enrolled in Tibetan schools across India and Nepal. This time there were 88 participants in total comprising of 74 students and 14 teachers from 16 different schools.

In the first phase, the students were introduced about the functioning of the Tibetan democracy in Exile and situation of Tibet. The students were made thoroughly understand the structure and workings of the Central Tibetan Administration and the Tibetan NGOs; the achievements, challenges and future prospects of the three pillars of the Tibetan democracy; and informed them about the current Tibetan political situation and human rights situation inside Tibet.
